True High Availability
Every tier runs 3-node Linstor replication — if a node fails, your VMs migrate instantly without data loss. The Enterprise cluster adds a replica in a second, geographically isolated data center by default — Standard and Business clusters can add it for +$250/mo and +$400/mo.
Continuous Data Protection
HA protects against hardware failure — not an accidental DROP TABLE. Every cluster streams Postgres and S3 changes to a second data center with a sub-minute RPO (<30s on Business and Enterprise) and up to 30-day point-in-time recovery, covering ransomware and human error on every tier. Data stays encrypted at rest and in transit; we manage firewalls, routing, and backups so you don't have to.
Management Tools
For partners with strict data sovereignty requirements or existing infrastructure, you license our platform automation and management containers — the BW2 cloud services are part of that license: services we provide ourselves are included, and metered services like SMS and AI bill only for what you use.
Management Containers
Get the BW2 automation stack for your own tier on your own hardware: application servers, Postgres, S3 storage and supporting services such as the reverse proxy and logging — updates, backups and monitoring included. Manage private nodes with the same tools used for cloud.
Access to Cloud Services
The management tools provide instant, out-of-the-box integration with the BW2 cloud services — identity, email, SMS, signing, sharing, document recognition and AI. Services we provide ourselves (email, spellchecking, the pro document editor) are included; only services with usage costs (SMS, AI, document recognition) are metered pay-as-you-go. The cloud services themselves remain operated by us and are connected out of the box; running them on your own infrastructure is possible as a supported engagement, billed by the hour.

Example: a Standard server with DR runs $1,000 / mo total — $500 license + $500 DR — plus $0.04/GB for the replicated data.
One license per server: each operating-system instance — VM or bare-metal machine — running the BW2 server software needs its own license, sized by the vCPUs that instance sees. One vCPU equals one logical processor as reported by the operating system.
Manual Mode, Management Tools or Managed Hosting
The platform is free and runs on your infrastructure; what an installation gets from the BW2 cloud depends on how you run it. Manual Mode is the platform without a subscription: a free key covers discovery — the solutions directory, resources and the App Store — for up to 1,000 production databases per solution, and you install, run and update everything else yourself, the identity container included. That key is the only license key in the platform and the cloud services; nothing else is gated. Manual Mode exists so the license means what it says. Management Tools and Managed Hosting are the two subscriptions, and they have to earn their keep every month.
The count is per solution — the product you publish — across all its installations, whoever operates them. Non-production databases are always free, and databases on Managed Hosting or under Management Tools don't count. Above 1,000, Manual Mode needs a flat license for the solution, negotiated with its publisher — never per user.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to host with BW2?
No. You are free to host anywhere. Most choose managed hosting or the Management Tools license because the automation costs less than internal DevOps staff — but manual self-hosting is fully permitted.
Can a hosting provider or IT outsourcer run BW2 for us?
Running the platform on rented infrastructure that your own staff operate — any cloud provider — is covered by the license. A third party operating your installation as a managed service needs a Management Tools license; that is what the license exists for. Ask your provider, or point them to us.
Can I install BW2 entirely for free on my own server?
Yes. Install the platform on your own infrastructure and run it in production without a subscription. The free key covers discovery — the solutions directory, resources and the App Store — for up to 1,000 production databases per solution; non-production databases are always free, and databases on Managed Hosting or under Management Tools don't count. Above that, Manual Mode needs a flat license for the solution, negotiated with its publisher — never per user. The service containers we build — identity, mail integration, messaging, documents, document processing, the AI gateway — are source-available; in Manual Mode you build and run them yourself. Third-party components — SMTP server, IMAP engine, document editing engine, WebSpellChecker, Tiptap Pro — run under your own licenses; usage-based services such as AI, OCR and SMS under your own contracts. Does the Management Tools license include support?
The license includes support for the Management Tools themselves — installation, updates, the automation they provide. Cloud service containers you run on your own servers are supported by the hour. Hardware, operating system and network connectivity are yours.
Are the BW2 cloud services free to use?
Core platform services — including transactional email dispatch, spellchecker, Tiptap Editor Pro, and file sharing — are fully included with your managed hosting tier or self-hosted license at $0 extra cost. Usage-based third-party services (such as AI processing, document OCR, and SMS gateways) are metered transparently and billed pay-as-you-go based on actual consumption. Usage-based services can also run under your own provider credentials in our gateway — then the provider bills you directly and BW2 meters nothing. In Manual Mode, discovery — the solutions directory, resources and the App Store — comes with the free key for up to 1,000 production databases per solution; the service containers, identity included, are yours to build and run.
Can we run the cloud services on our own infrastructure?
Yes. The service containers we build — identity, mail integration, messaging, documents, document processing, the AI gateway — are source-available for every installation. In Manual Mode you build and run them yourself, together with the third-party components and services they connect to. The Management Tools license includes the service containers operated by BW2, along with the flat-licensed third-party components; optionally you install the containers on your own infrastructure, with support by the hour.
What happens if we end the subscription?
Anything we operate for you — managed hosting, the cloud services on our infrastructure, metered services under our contracts — ends with it. The platform is unaffected, and the free key still covers discovery for up to 1,000 production databases per solution: databases already running keep running; adding new ones above 1,000 needs a subscription again, or a flat license for Manual Mode. Containers you run on your own infrastructure keep working with the versions you hold; self-hosting, updates and support move to you.
Is there a free way to develop against the cloud services?
Yes. Non-production databases — development, test, staging, demo — are always free under any key. And, coming later, the Developer Cloud, free for registered developers, with every cloud service included. Register for early access to be notified when it opens.
